About Al

I have been the Mayor of the Town of Mississippi Mills since November 2003 and was re-elected for a four year term in November 2006. In December 2006, I was acclaimed as Warden of Lanark County for the year 2007.

l worked at Ottawa Hydro for 32 years and had a very rewarding career as the Director of Human Resources.  I am a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and was responsible  for staffing, labour relations, benefits and health and safety for 400 employees. I chaired several successful fundraisers for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the United Way.

I participated as a trainer in the management training of utility staff throughout Ontario and participated actively in the Municipal Electric Association Pension Insurance Committee and the Health and Safety Committee.

My human resource background has been a decided asset in my dealings with you, the ratepayers, and the staff at the Town of Mississippi Mills, as well as at the county level.

l have been married to Jeri Doherty since 1965.  We have three grown children and two grandchildren. We both have strong roots in Mississippi Mills.  I was born and raised in the Pakenham area, Jeri was brought up in the Village of Pakenham and attended Almonte High School, we lived in Ramsay for a number of years when our children were small, and now we make our home in Almonte.
