I share your concerns about the future of this rail line. This is not the time to be tearing up rail lines.

The County of Lanark and the County of Renfrew have a joint committee that is meeting on a regular basis with CP Rail on this issue. I am the Lanark County representative on that committee.

CP Rail has made it abundantly clear that they are not interested in dealing with individual municipalities but wish to sell to one purchaser assuming that they do not have anyone to use it as a rail line.

I`m afraid that CP will silently go ahead to rip up the tracks later on this fall. They would intend to sell the corridor to snowmobile and ATV clubs including to convert certain portions into real estate lots near highways. That would mean there will never be any passenger or freight train traffic across Canada without passing through Toronto. Sadly when fuel prices triple within the next ten years this to-be abandoned rail corridor will never return for any type of train use. Road and air travel will be too expensive that private investing into economical monorail travel maybe the only solution for reliable economic method of transportation

Enjoy your downtime, having had to deal with our criticisms, you’ve earned it. All the best in your future endeavours.

How many times I have heard you say: "We need a win-win solution". You have used your negotiation skills at times when I would have used a big stick. Well done- I know your way is "the right thing to do"!

Dad:

Public office is important but it also requires a lot of hard work and dedication and limitless amounts of tact and aplomb to focus people on accomplishing stuff and yet in seven years you also still consistently found the time to be there for family wherever whenever.

So I'm sure it was not a decision taken lightly and I was OK either way with it. I think you'll enjoy a break and your condo and Mississippi Mills is a great and comfortable location for it, even if you did give away your comfy porch furniture to yours truly. As to what lies ahead next, who knows? You certainly surprised us all after the first retirement.

I appreciate the posting of the biosolids info, but it makes no mention of septage. My request was to show scientific data that proves or strongly suggests that spreading untreated septic tank material is bad for the environment.

Thanks
